It’s the 25th and Christmas is about to be over.
Christmas in Germany starts with Christmas eve on the 24th. That’s when you get your presents and all that stuff. We’re used to visit friends and then go to church at about four o’clock. After that everyone sits around the Christmas tree, which we got out of the forest on Saturday. We get our presents and then we have dinner.
Christmas time in Germany is heaps different to what I experienced in Australia. We don’t have those nice Christmas lights outside the houses which I think is definitely a minus. Apart from that I think I prefer the German Christmas. Probably because it’s what I’m used to.
It all starts with the first of December when every child (or teen) opens the first door or else of the Advent calendar. Every Sunday in December we light a Candle. We have special Advent wreaths with four candles. When the fourth candle is lit it’s nearly Christmas. It all creates a special Christmas flair what I really like.
Just before Christmas, my Dad, my brother and me (maybe also a friend of mine), go into the forest near by and chop a Christmas tree. And a Christmas tree here is nothing near one of yours. It’s an actual tree and it is huge. At least ours is, because we have a living room with a pretty high ceiling, where it is possible to place a tree which is around five meters high. You can see it on the Photos coming with this post. When the tree is carried home on the top of our car, we stand it into our living room and deck it out.
Today on the 1st Christmas day, as we call it, we’ve been to my grandma’s and had tea with them. Of course a couple of presents have been laying underneath their Christmas tree.
Tomorrow on the 2nd Christmas day, as we call Boxing day, we pretty much chill out and do fairly nothing.
Ah I nearly forgot to mention it. The title of this blog is caused by the outside temperatures around here. It is absolutely freezing. Last week we had it about -5°C every morning. On one day it was -9.5°C.
But I got to admit that I quite like it. It’s home.
So yeah…I think that’s it for now. My next post should be online in about a week’s time when I tell you about new years eve, like it is here. With having private fireworks and all that.
